About Us

Kancho_Japan

Our Organization

A collaboration of dojos representing multiple styles and disciplines promoting the benefits of martial arts education.

NAKKO formed from a vision of unified and shared training. Kancho Larry Giordano explained "It was important to me that martial arts practitioners would have a place to train regardless of where they were in the country or traveling abroad. I will gladly host other schools' students for training.  If one of my students goes California, or Arizona, or even Aruba, I can tell them who to contact at one of the other member schools."

Our History

The following story about Kancho Larry Giordano (Sensei at the time) is an excerpt from Mas Oyama's Kyokushin Karate Magazine - Vol. 6 No. 1&2, 1983

Sensei Larry Giordano has many plans for us that involve hard training out of doors, as well as difficult sessions in our dojo. Sensei Giordano's dojo was established in October of 1968; it is called The Methuen Karate Association. Sensei Giordano received his Kyokushin black belt from Sensei Stephen M. Senne of Burbank, California. During the decade of the 1970's, Sensei Giordano was in frequent contact with Senseis Senne and Don Buck of California. Occasionally these famous USA Kyokushin Karate Senseis would travel to the Methuen dojo to train with us.

In 1975 Master Mas Oyama awarded Sensei Giordano with his Branch Chief certificate. Sensei Giordano considers this a great achievement and the certificate is prominently displayed in his office. With the title of Branch Chief, Sensei Giordano organized the New England Kyokushin Organization.

Sensei Giordano constantly reminds us that there are no short cuts to success. Only hard work and constant training bring about success.

Because Sensei Giordano is  also a full time police officer for the town of Methuen, he has drawn upon his years of intense karate training to defuse potential volatile situations. Also Sensei Giordano and his students have put on numerous demonstrations throughout the New England area to raise money for charity as well as to introduce true Budo karate to the people. Sensei Giordano is considered an expert in tameshi wari and several of his demonstrations have been televised on local television stations.

The students and assistant instructors are very active in area tournaments competition, and they do very well. Many of Sensei Giordano's students, over the years, have captured both kata and kumite championships .
